1% productivity

Productivity in the world of business has had a turbulent time in recent years. From stagnation on the back of the recession, to stability, right through to increasing levels in recent years. As the UK economy starts to show consistent growth, business productivity gains are crucial to maximise the opportunity that the UK marketplace now has. The so called ‘productivity puzzle’ that UK businesses are facing needs to be cracked to ensure future success, but how should they go about this?

Investment in IT infrastructure and skills is essential to transform business performance. However, a lot of businesses may not know where to start and potentially lack the necessary experience to make technology work well for them, or worse still, fail to understand its full potential for transforming and growing their business.

To highlight this, Intercity Technology recently conducted research into attitudes towards technology in the workplace and its impact on productivity amongst IT Managers, IT users and ultimately, the business as a whole.

The research questioned employees on what they would do if they could complete their workload an hour quicker each day and uncovered insightful findings that could potentially benefit your business and the employees within it.

We found that a high number of employees want to spend more of their time at work focusing on innovation, personal development, training and developing their team and essential administrative tasks. Releasing valuable time to enable these types of activities would have a positive and powerful impact on business productivity and employee satisfaction.

An hour a day spent on these activities would accumulate quickly to a significant amount of time that would enable employees and in turn, the business, to thrive. Similarly, the research shows that 52 per cent of IT users would spend time gained through increased productivity with family and friends, leading to an improved work-life balance.
