Building a better future for children in Ghana
Today is not exactly business as usual for Intercity's Product Director Maria Grant, who is currently in Ghana! Maria is part of a volunteer team, helping to build a Centre of Excellence Kindergarten at OLA Teacher Training College.
Sabre is an independent education charity working in rural Ghana, building schools for disadvantaged village children. Maria was invited by our partner Exertis, also a sponsor of the Sabre charity and Techaid project. When the invitation landed Maria couldn’t wait to get involved in this important work.
Today Maria and the team are travelling through the developing suburbs of Accra, gaining a real insight into the lives of the everyday Ghanaian. They will then make their way towards Elmina and settle in at Stumble Inn to meet the support team. Following their briefing session the team will visit the community and project site and then get to work on the build this afternoon.
Exertis along with fellow Techaid sponsors Microsoft, Onecom, Sony, Targus and Digital Phone Company, have to date raised an impressive £55,263!
Maria and the team of volunteers will be in Ghana for 6 days - it will be challenging work in the Ghanaian heat but no doubt be extremely rewarding. We wish the team a successful trip and look forward to hearing about their Ghana adventure in more detail on their return.
