At Intercity, we believe technology should be a force for good. We’re incredibly proud to have played our part in Warwickshire becoming the first county club in England & Wales to adopt Ripple's life-saving crisis intervention technology on staff both laptops and public Wi-Fi.
Now live across Edgbaston’s IT systems and Wi-Fi network, this innovative solution discreetly intervenes when someone searches for self-harm or suicide-related content, guiding them towards vital mental health support. It’s a simple but powerful way to help protect people when they need it most.
Suicide remains the leading cause of death for young people, and the internet can be both a source of help and, sadly, a place where harmful searches lead to dangerous content. By integrating Ripple’s safeguarding tool across all corporate devices and Edgbaston’s 170 Wi-Fi access points, we’re creating an extra layer of protection for colleagues, young cricketers, and fans alike.
There’s no evidence that these searches have taken place at Edgbaston, and that’s exactly why this proactive approach is so important. The club wanted to take a safeguarding step in advance, ensuring the system is in place if it is ever needed. It’s about making sure that if someone is struggling, there’s something in place to help guide them towards the right support. Even if we can help just one person, then it was all worth it.
"If there was something that could be done, we wanted to make sure we did it."
Thomas Cunningham-Smith, Safeguarding & Compliance Manager at Warwickshire County Cricket Club
As Edgbaston Cricket Ground & Warwickshire CCC’s official IT partner, we worked closely with the team to ensure Ripple’s safeguarding tool was seamlessly deployed across their infrastructure. The technology integrates as a browser extension and Wi-Fi-based solution, meaning it operates discreetly in the background without collecting personal data.
Our role has been to ensure this technology is implemented effectively, giving Edgbaston a robust safeguarding measure that works across all networks and devices. This is a perfect example of how IT isn’t just about efficiency and security—it’s also about using technology to make a real difference to people’s lives.
At Intercity, we’ve spent over 40 years helping organisations stay connected, secure, and supported, but few projects resonate as deeply as this one. When technology has the power to save lives, we believe it’s our responsibility to help make it happen.
We’re incredibly proud to be part of this initiative alongside Edgbaston and Ripple. It’s a testament to what can be achieved when organisations come together with a shared goal: to protect people and make a lasting impact.
If this technology helps just one person in crisis, then it’s absolutely worth it. Because at the heart of everything we do, it’s always about the people.
If you or someone you know is struggling with mental health, support is available. Visit Ripple’s website for more information on their life-saving work, or reach out to a mental health organisation for help. You are not alone.
