Alan Jackson meets Martin Cooper, the inventor of the first handheld mobile phone, at the Motorola in Chicago and can see the tech’s potential before its 1982 launch.
Working with the UK Government, in conjunction with the launch of Vodafone and Cellnet and the London trials in 1984, Intercity is established as one of their first partners.

Intercity is founded by Alan Jackson as an independent service provider at the dawn of UK mobile technology, starting life in Birmingham with just 6 colleagues.
Alan put everything on the line to start the business.

The business is rebranded as Intercity Technology from Intercity Telecom Ltd, facilitating a shift from a mobile-focused business to a unified communications provider. This reflects the innovations of the time, such as Cloud and Fixed lines
support_agent ICS: WORLD-CLASS CUSTOMER SERVICE
We become the first and only independent telecom service provider to be awarded the Service Mark Accreditation from the Institute of Customer Service, putting Intercity level with prestigious brands like John Lewis and Marks and Spencer for their focus on world-class service to customers.
add_business On the acquisition trail
Intercity acquires Gage Networks, adding depth to its service as leading cloud communication specialists. All Gage Networks’ colleagues, are retained postacquisition. We also acquired the highly-accredited IT service provider Imerja, enhancing our services and providing access to public sector frameworks to customers. We expand to Birmingham, Bolton, London, Elstree, Oakham and Amsterdam.
